airlink to plett – after upgrades

july 2007

AIRLINK has told TNN it was interested in reinstating services to Plettenberg Bay.

This, says the airline, is subject to the airport being upgraded to the extent where it complied with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) licence requirements. “We will need to see the airport operating licence reinstated before Airlink undertakes the service,” says Airlink CEO and MD, Rodger Foster.

A Bitou council spokesperson confirmed that the airport was being upgraded to the level of a Category Five airport but could not confirm when this would be done.

“We are in the process of upgrading the airport and have started by installing proper security fencing. We are also looking at extending the runway and upgrading the terminal building,” said the spokesperson. Foster says only once the alterations have been done will the CAA be able to inspect and issue a licence in the category required for Airlink’s operations.
